The 12" (30cm) FPR12-04 subwoofer from MTX Audio offers a unique combination of flat design and high performance. With an installation depth of just 84.6mm, this subwoofer still delivers powerful, deep bass and is ideal for tight installation spaces. The patented One Piece Spider Cone Assembly design provides improved control of one-way movement and increases excursion, resulting in a higher sound pressure level. Optimized for sealed enclosures, the FPR12-04 requires only 0.60 cu ft of air space and delivers an impressive RMS output of 300W-400W. Thanks to special thermal management, the sound quality is maintained even under intensive conditions. In addition, the model offers a frequency response of 22 Hz - 150 Hz and an impedance of 4 Ω, making it a versatile option for demanding audio setups.
The design
The FPR is patented and unique in that the cone is attached directly to the spider. This design allows the spider to better control the movement of the cone, especially its one-way movement, Xmax. The angled design of the basket allows the cone to travel further than a conventional subwoofer, where the connection of the spider to the basket would be limited. In addition, the cone is bent at the point where it is connected to the surround. This is not only advantageous as it facilitates the connection to the spider, but also increases the surface diameter of the cone. The increase in Xmax and surface diameter achieved by the design allows the subwoofer to move more air and produce a higher sound pressure level.

Thermal management
The FPR subwoofer utilizes two design elements to regulate the high temperatures generated at the voice coil. Like other MTX subwoofers, the FPR series utilizes the mechanical cooling process, Spider Plateau Venting, to continuously direct air to the voice coil to prevent distortion caused by excessive temperatures. In addition, the aluminum dust cap in the cone is directly connected to the voice coil and directs heat away from the voice coil, further enhancing reliability and sound quality.
