Description
The Sundown Audio SLD series, which includes the SLD-10 10" (25cm) flat subwoofer, can be considered a "reboot" of the SD-2 line from 2011. The SD-2 was essentially a "flat SA v1" - that is, it had the same cone, surround and spider as the SA, but a shorter motor with a shorter coil. The SD series took a different route from the 3rd generation (SD-3) - more towards SQ and sealed enclosures (this also applies to the SD-4 series). Due to popular demand, we created the SLD series to bring back a highly abuse-tolerant "shallow" series that likes to work with open housings!
Similar to the current SD-4 series, we used solid pole pieces so that the SLD can also be mounted directly on the rear housing wall to reduce the required mesh depth. Compared to the old SD-2, we have introduced a number of important upgrades: Pole-piece channels for reduced air noise and improved cooling, top-plate "slots" for better cooling and less distortion, and a magnetic ID shorting ring. With long-term reliability in mind, we also bolted down the spider, bolted the motor together, bolted on the aluminum pole cap, and added "mini-XL" lead wires to ensure many years of trouble-free operation.
