Description

Discover the unique features of the 2300SE, a state-of-the-art 2-channel amplifier from ARC Audio. Developed by Robert Zeff, the 2300SE sets new standards in sound quality and performance. Thanks to its high-end ClassA/B amplification, hand-selected power amplifier transistors and uncompromising design, this device offers unsurpassed acoustic finesse. The temperature-controlled bias and hard-regulated power supply combine to deliver sensational performance, while the versatile connectivity options and illuminated ARC logo in 256 selectable colors ensure a user experience that is as enjoyable as it is impressive.

Signature Edition HighEnd ClassA/B amplifier developed by Robert Zeff
The Signature Edition is a hard bias Class A/B amplifier. A simple Class B amplifier uses 2 output transistors to provide the current that moves the speaker. The positive transistor pushes the woofer out and the negative pulls it back. In this design, only 1 transistor works at a time. It is the transition between positive and negative that leads to the higher distortion that makes a Class B amplifier unacceptable for audio reproduction. In most cases, a bias circuit is added to a Class B amplifier to make it a Class A/B amplifier. The bias circuit improves distortion by turning on the unused output device slightly while current is flowing through the other device. The more bias you add, the lower the distortion, but there is a side effect. Heat is generated as the two output transistors are switched on at the same time. The more bias you add, the better it sounds, but the more heat you generate, the more heat changes the natural bias of the output devices.

The trick with the Signature Edition bias circuit is to manage the bias current at any temperature. By carefully adjusting the bias of each amplifier, you can keep the bias stable over the entire temperature range, allowing the engineer to "dial in" much more bias than with a traditional Class A/B amplifier. This is one of the key elements to the amazingly transparent sound of the Signature Editions.

The key to running this much bias is thermal management. The Signature Edition features a unique heatsink design that mounts a 4-inch fan in the center of the PCB to force cool air in a cross-flow pattern over a massive, finned heatsink before exhausting it at the ends. This design minimizes the impact of the installation location on the amplifier's thermal performance. When mounted upside down, under or behind a seat, or under a Signature Edition control panel, the same performance is achieved.

To further improve dynamics and efficiency, the Signature Edition amplifier uses only rigidly regulated, fully isolated power supplies. The regulation not only improves the damping factor and overall control of an amplifier, but also eliminates any effects of voltage drops in the charging system.
