Technical details to consider when buying

A distinction must be made between two types of speaker sets. There are 2-way systems that only consist of a tweeter and a mid-bass driver. Here, the tweeter covers frequencies from around 3,000 Hz and the bass-midrange driver must be able to reproduce both the mid frequencies and the deep bass. In a 3-way system, a midrange driver is also installed, which reproduces the frequencies between approx. 400 and 3,000 Hz. The 2-way system is installed much more frequently, as it is both more space-saving and easier to handle. Thanks to a crossover design, these speaker sets are easier to correct for the correct phase position, which improves the spatial imaging of the sound. However, a 3-way system can usually reproduce the lowest bass frequencies better and enables a higher maximum sound level. Depending on your personal preferences, you need to decide on one of these two types of speaker sets before buying. A distinction is also made between active and passive speaker systems. The difference is simply that active systems do not include crossovers and therefore the frequency separation takes place directly via the amplifier, the radio or a DSP.
