The Zeus series, from which the Hifonics Zeus ZXO2 crossovers originate, has represented power and excellent sound in the Hifonics program for many years. For the first time, in addition to component systems and coaxials, individual components such as high-quality aluminum die-cast midrange drivers and woofers are now available, making 3-way combinations possible. The woofer in the component set (available separately as ZX6.2W) features an aluminum die-cast basket and an aluminum phase plug. The sandwich membrane consists of a triple fiberglass composite material, which is particularly lightweight yet exceptionally stable. The frequency response is extremely linear and requires hardly any corrections through "crossover tricks." The powerful magnet drive, weighing 14 ounces, provides plenty of power and drives a very large 30.5 mm voice coil. This allows for a mechanical stroke of up to +/- 11 mm. The separately available 25 mm textile neodymium tweeter ZX6.2T with coupling volume (resonance frequency 700Hz) covers a particularly wide frequency range up to well over 24 kHz very linearly.

The highlight of the 2-way combo set is that it is already prepared for 3-way operation: You can easily connect the optional 7.5 cm midrange speaker ZXM3 to the crossover ZXO-2 without much effort: Simply switch the jumpers in the crossover to 3-way, connect the midrange speaker with a bandpass crossover; done. The midrange speaker also impresses with excellent components such as an aluminum die-cast basket, an aluminum diaphragm, a large 25 mm voice coil, as well as an extra ventilated centering spider and a powerful neodymium drive.

The Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 stands out for its flexibility, supporting both 2-way and 3-way systems. It features a switchable crossover with a 12 dB high-pass/low-pass, ensuring a crossover frequency of 3300 Hz. With impedances of 4 Ω, an RMS power of 125 W, and a maximum load capacity of 250 W, it addresses high-power requirements. Thanks to the high-frequency level switch with +3dB, 0dB, and -3dB, the sound can be further fine-tuned. Another key factor is its high linearity in the frequency response, which operates with minimal corrections, resulting in excellent sound quality.
The Zeus ZXO-2 is designed for operation with the Hifonics ZX6.2W woofer and the ZX6.2T tweeter. The woofer features an aluminum die-cast basket, a sandwich membrane made of fiberglass composite material, and is powered by a strong magnetic drive with a 30.5 mm voice coil. The tweeter offers a fabric neodymium structure with a 700 Hz resonance frequency and covers up to over 24 kHz. With the optional integration of the 7.5 cm midrange ZXM3, equipped with an aluminum membrane and neodymium drive, the crossover can easily be expanded to a 3-way system.
The installation of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 requires a strategic placement approach to optimally integrate the sound. The high/low-pass crossover point of 3300 Hz allows for a seamless transition between speakers, which should ideally occur at a central position within the door or dashboard. When installing, it is important to ensure that the specific dimensions of the speaker components (e.g., the 6.5 inch woofer) fit into the designated mounting locations of the vehicle. The jumpers must be configured correctly when implementing a 3-way setup to ensure that the midrange speaker is properly integrated into the signal flow.
The powerful magnetic drive of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2, which operates a voice coil with an impressive diameter of 30.5 mm, offers significant advantages, particularly in terms of volume and bass dynamics. The weight of the drive is 14 ounces and allows for a mechanical excursion of up to +/- 11 mm, enabling the speakers to reproduce low frequencies more effectively and achieve higher sound pressure levels without distortion. Especially if you enjoy listening to loud music, this drive provides the necessary power and control over sound reproduction across the entire low-frequency range.
The high-frequency level switch of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 allows for adjustment of the high-frequency level to +3 dB, 0 dB, or -3 dB, which is particularly useful for optimizing sound according to the acoustic conditions in the vehicle. For example, if you want to reduce a treble-heavy room sound, a -3 dB setting can be helpful. The ability to adjust the level in steps provides flexibility to achieve the optimal sound under various conditions and personal preferences. This is crucial to ensure that certain frequency ranges do not dominate and a balanced sound image is created.
The integrated woofer in the Hifonics Zeus component set features an innovative design based on an aluminum die-cast basket. This extremely stable yet lightweight construction supports the dynamic reproduction of low frequencies. The diaphragm is made of a triple fiberglass composite material that combines durability and efficiency, resulting in precise and punchy bass sound. This design efficiently transmits vibrations from the 30.5 mm voice coil to the diaphragm, leading to a clear and undistorted sound image when low-frequency audio waves are reproduced.
The optional midrange speaker ZXM3 from Hifonics, which can be used with the Zeus ZXO-2, has a diameter of 7.5 cm and is equipped with an aluminum diaphragm. The construction of the aluminum die-cast basket supports a rigid and resonance-free environment, contributing to the fidelity of the mid frequencies. A 25 mm voice coil made of copper wire ensures optimal energy transfer, making it excellent for daily use. The neodymium drive of the midrange speaker delivers outstanding efficiency, while the extra-ventilated centering spider helps improve heat dissipation and ensures consistent performance even at higher volumes.
The glass fiber composite membrane of the subwoofer in the Hifonics Zeus system is special because it is made from a triple glass fiber composite material that is both lightweight and extremely stable. This choice of material allows for precise transmission of low frequencies with high sensitivity and minimal distortion. Furthermore, the structure of the sandwich membrane prevents unwanted resonances and enhances reproduction through high stiffness and lower mass. Especially in demanding acoustic environments, the superiority of this design becomes evident, as it sustainably improves the sound image through uncolored bass reproduction.
The crossover frequency of 3300 Hz in the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 crossover ensures that the transition between the high and low frequency ranges occurs seamlessly. This frequency lies in the optimal range to represent voices and instruments clearly and precisely, as it effectively separates the mid and high frequencies. This allows the tweeter to present important details in high ranges without disturbing the low frequency range. Such a frequency transition is essential to achieve a balanced sound image that optimally highlights both the brilliance of the highs and the depth of the lows.
To expand the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 crossover into a 3-way system, the connection of the optional midrange speaker ZXM3 is required. For this, the jumper within the crossover must be switched to the 3-way configuration. Then, the midrange speaker is connected via the bandpass crossover. An additional midrange speaker enhances the midrange frequency, which can improve the overall brightness and presence of the system. This modified arrangement does not require rewiring of the other components but can be quickly adapted to existing systems, thereby ideally complementing the sound spectrum and providing a fuller sound character.

12 dB slope and its significance for your audio system

The 12 dB crossover slope of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 crossover is a technical feature that ensures effective frequency separation. This slope reduces a frequency doubling or halving by 12 dB, resulting in a clearer and more precise sound. This slope is common in car hi-fi applications and offers a solid balance between precision and natural sound flow. A steeper slope, such as 24 dB, would produce even more pronounced frequency separation, but would require more complex electronics and potentially produce a less natural sound.

125 watts RMS and 250 watts maximum power handling

With an RMS power rating of 125 watts and a maximum power handling of 250 watts, the Zeus ZXO-2 crossover from Hifonics offers sufficient power reserves for common car hi-fi speaker systems. The RMS power rating indicates the continuous power the component can handle over time without distortion or damage, while the maximum power handling represents the peak power achievable in the short term. These performance values ensure powerful and dynamic sound reproduction without the risk of overloading the crossover.

4 Ohm impedance and its advantages in car hi-fi

With an impedance of 4 ohms, the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 crossover fits into the standard range of car hi-fi components. This impedance ensures an optimal balance between performance and efficiency. A lower impedance, such as 2 ohms, would require a higher amplifier power, but would also result in greater power consumption and potentially unwanted heat generation. 4 ohms are particularly well-suited for combination with commercially available amplifiers, as they allow for good power dispersion.

Overview of the frequency range of the 25 mm fabric neodymium tweeter

The separately available 25 mm soft neodymium tweeter (model ZX6.2T) combined with the Zeus ZXO-2 crossover offers outstanding frequency coverage up to 24 kHz. The resonant frequency at 700 Hz supports fine detail reproduction and allows for seamless integration with existing system components. The linear frequency coverage up to 24 kHz ensures clear, crisp highs that add depth and brilliance to the sound. A wider frequency range like this ensures excellent reproduction quality even in complex musical pieces.

Crossover frequency at 3300 Hz for optimal sound separation

The specified crossover frequency of 3300 Hz of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 crossover network is a crucial feature that defines the separation between the midrange and tweeter in a typical two-way setup. At this frequency, the tweeter handles the more subtle signals, while the midrange covers the mid-frequency bands. This separation is standard and ensures that each speaker component operates within its optimal range, thus creating a harmonious overall sound. A crossover frequency that is too low could negatively impact the tweeter's performance.

Flexibility through switchability between 2- and 3-way operation

A standout feature of the Hifonics Zeus ZXO-2 is its switchability between 2- and 3-way operation. By simply flipping the jumpers on the crossover, the optional 7.5 cm ZXM3 midrange driver can be easily integrated. This adaptability allows you to expand and customize your audio system as desired, without requiring extensive electronics knowledge. Such flexibility in system configuration can prove valuable when striving to balance the sound in the car or expand the system.

Tweeter level switch for individual sound tuning

The integrated tweeter level switch on the Zeus ZXO-2 crossover allows for fine-tuned adjustment of the sound profile, ideal for maximum high-frequency precision. With options at +3 dB, 0 dB, and -3 dB, the high-frequency content can be boosted, neutralized, or cut as needed. This allows the loudspeaker to be used in a variety of acoustic environments and meets specific listening preferences. This flexibility is essential for the best possible sound adaptation directly on-site.

Cast aluminum basket and its importance for the sound

The cast aluminum basket of the woofer in the Hifonics composite set, which includes the ZXO-2 crossover, offers high rigidity and low weight. This choice of material eliminates unwanted resonances and lends the speaker stability, resulting in a more precise sound. Compared to common materials such as plastic, aluminum ensures less natural resonance and improved sound transparency. Such properties can work wonders for sound, especially in high-performance speaker systems.
