The Zapco ST-500XM III 1-channel bass amplifier from the ST-X Class D Series is part of a series of four mono bass amplifiers of Class D, which can achieve a power output ranging from 400 watts RMS to 2,000 watts RMS. All Studio-XM amplifiers can also be connected to a single voice coil, allowing you to double their power at any time by simply linking them to another amplifier of the same model. The ST-500XM III 1-channel amplifier has a power output of 400 watts RMS at 1 ohm. On the connection front, there are settings for the crossover and bass boost. The ST-500XM III comes with a bass remote control included.

All new ST-XM III amplifiers have the following in common:

  • Remote Control - All ST-X amplifiers come with a remote control that allows you to instantly change the bass output as needed.
  • Input sensitivity controller (Gain) - Adjusts the sensitivity between 200 mV and over 5 volts.
  • Mono Bridge Out and Bridge In - These allow the linking of two amplifiers (Strapping). When the Bridge Out RCA of the main amplifier is connected to the Bridge RCA In of the slave amplifier, the main amplifier (Out) takes priority in control.
  • Low-pass crossover - All ST-XM amplifiers are designed as bass amplifiers and feature a full-fledged low-pass crossover that is adjustable from 40 to 180 Hz.
  • Sub Sonic (HP) Filter - The reproduction of frequencies that are below those that one wants to hear wastes amplifier power. The Sub-Sonic filter helps to save this energy for the frequencies. More importantly, frequencies below the allowable range of the subwoofer can quickly destroy the subwoofer. This is especially important in enclosures with ports.
  • Bass Boost Control - All ST-XM amplifiers feature a variable bass boost from 0 dB to 12 dB.
  • Bass Frequency Controller - The bass reproduction of a subwoofer is different in every car, so a bass boost at 50 Hz can be great in one car but useless in another. With the ST-X Bass Frequency Controller, you can adjust the bass boost to any frequency between 30 Hz and 80 Hz, allowing it to be perfectly tuned to the music in the car.
  • Phase controller - A bass enclosure that is oriented forward sounds different than when it is oriented backward. In both cases, it makes a difference when the phase of the subwoofer is changed. Furthermore, the ST-XM phase controller is variable from 0° to 180°, allowing you to set the phase relationship that works best in your car.

The variable phase control of the Zapco ST-500XM III allows for fine adjustment of the subwoofer's phase between 0° and 180°. This feature is particularly relevant when the bass enclosure needs to be positioned differently to account for the acoustic character of the vehicle. A forward-facing enclosure will sound different than a rear-facing one, and the correct phase setting can help seamlessly integrate the bass into the overall sound profile of the car. This prevents bass frequencies from overlapping or canceling each other out, maximizing the clarity and punchiness of the bass sound.
The Zapco ST-500XM III features an innovative bridge function that allows two amplifiers of the same model to be coupled to double the power for more demanding audio systems. The main amplifier is connected to the bridge RCA in of the slave amplifier via the bridge out RCA connection. This configuration is ideal for use with a large or multiple voice coils, as the first amplifier can take control of the second, achieving synchronized amplification without sound differences. This technique is particularly useful in complex installations that require more power.
The ST-500XM III features a variable input sensitivity control that allows the sensitivity of the amplifier to be adjusted between 200 mV and 5 volts. This function enables optimal tuning of the amplifier to different output levels from head units or signal processors. Correctly setting the input sensitivity is crucial to avoid distortion and to fully utilize the amplifier's power. This flexibility is particularly advantageous in complex audio systems, allowing the amplifier to be optimally adjusted to various system-related volume differences, thereby maximizing sound quality.
The Zapco ST-500XM III amplifier has compact dimensions of 160 mm in width, 58 mm in height, and 225 mm in length. These small measurements allow for versatile installation options in various vehicle types, both in modern and older models, as it can be integrated into small spaces and often underutilized areas. Due to its universal size, the amplifier fits into numerous vehicles without extensive modifications being required. The aluminum housing construction ensures pleasant handling as well as effective heat dissipation, even under high power demands.
The subsonic filter in the ST-500XM III is designed to filter out frequencies that are outside the audible range and can weaken the energy efficiency of the amplifier. By filtering out these frequencies, which are not perceived anyway and could damage the subwoofer, more power is preserved for the actual music frequencies. This improves the overall efficiency of the amplifier and protects the equipment from damage due to overload. This feature is especially essential in ported enclosures to ensure optimal bass reproduction and the longevity of the subwoofer.
The bass frequency control on the Zapco ST-500XM III allows for specific adjustment of the bass boost in the frequency range between 30 Hz and 80 Hz. This feature is particularly important as it enables users to tailor the bass intensity to the acoustic characteristics of their vehicle. For instance, a boost at 50 Hz may be optimal in one car, while it might be less effective in another. This flexibility ensures that the bass is optimally showcased, regardless of the size and shape of the vehicle's interior, thus providing an audiophile adjustment option for true music lovers.
The Zapco ST-500XM III is housed in a solid aluminum casing that is not only robust and durable but also offers excellent heat dissipation properties. Especially in amplifiers that need to deliver high power over extended periods, efficient heat dissipation is essential to ensure thermal stability and prevent overheating. The design minimizes electromagnetic interference while providing protection against physical damage. This construction ensures consistent performance even in demanding listening situations and guarantees that sound quality remains at a high level.

Technical performance of the Zapco bass amplifier with 400 watts RMS at 1 ohm

With an output of 400 watts RMS at 1 ohm, the Zapco ST-500XM III delivers impressive bass. This power output is more than sufficient to support a powerful subwoofer with the necessary reserves without pushing the amplifier to its limits. A higher power rating could result in unnecessary energy loss, and a lower rating might not fully utilize the bass reserve. With a THD (total harmonic distortion) of less than 0.2%, the sound quality remains clean and distortion-free even at higher volumes.

Variable crossover from 40 to 180 Hz for precise adjustments

The ST-500XM III features a variable low-pass crossover adjustable between 40 and 180 Hz to precisely match the bass frequencies to the subwoofer and vehicle acoustics. This flexibility allows you to perfectly tune the frequencies to get the best sound from your system. A wider adjustment range could lock in unwanted low frequencies, while a range too narrow would offer less adjustment freedom.

Efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio of the 1-channel Class-D amplifier

An efficiency of over 85% ensures that this amplifier dissipates less energy as heat, thus operating more efficiently. Higher efficiency implies less rapid charging of the vehicle battery while maintaining consistent audio performance. With a signal-to-noise ratio of over 85 dB, the amplifier delivers clean audio output without any distracting noise. These outstanding specifications make it ideal for applications requiring clean and powerful bass reproduction.

Variable bass boost from 0 dB to 12 dB

The bass amplifier's adjustable bass boost allows you to adjust the bass level from 0 dB to a maximum of 12 dB. This feature allows you to emphasize low frequencies and thus offers the possibility of specifically emphasizing the bass reproduction. Higher gain could overload the subwoofer, while a boost below 0 dB is rarely useful, as it would reduce bass reproduction.

Zapco ST-500XM III bass control between 30 Hz and 80 Hz for optimal adjustment

Using the bass frequency control, the bass boost can be adjusted between 30 Hz and 80 Hz. This special feature ensures that the frequency boost perfectly matches the vehicle's interior acoustics. Older standard frequency points limit fine-tuning, while this flexible range is perfect for detailed adjustments in a wide variety of sound environments.

Flexibility through phase adjustment from 0° to 180°

The phase control offers precise adjustment from 0° to 180° for perfect harmony with other components. Switching from a linear to inverted signal allows for solving phase problems that can occur with foil-wrapped or repositioned subwoofer systems. This increased variability surpasses conventional fixed points between 0° and 180°, which offer only limited adjustment.

Dimensions of the bass amplifier in the compactly designed aluminum housing

With its compact dimensions of 160 mm wide, 58 mm high, and 225 mm long, the Zapco ST-500XM III fits seamlessly into virtually any vehicle. These dimensions allow for installation in tight spaces and offer additional flexibility in choosing the installation location. A smaller or larger amplifier may have limitations in terms of placement and heat dissipation.

Subsonic filter protects your subwoofer from unwanted frequencies

The subsonic filter is designed to filter out harmful lower frequencies and preserve energy for more useful frequency ranges. This feature drastically reduces the risk of subwafer damage in vented enclosures and ensures the amplifier remains at its optimal performance level. Without this feature, the amplifier could dissipate power to inaudible frequencies, which have no impact on sound quality but waste resources.

Convenient control thanks to the included bass remote control

The integration of a bass remote control allows for convenient adjustment of the bass output without having to access the amplifier. This included control allows you to make fine adjustments as desired, allowing you to instantly respond to the acoustic conditions in your vehicle. Without this option, you are reliant on manual adjustment on the amplifier, which can be inconvenient. For personalized advice, Masori offers expert support, FAQs, and help .
