STW-350F-188PR01-04 by Peerless by Tymphany

The 15-inch subwoofer STW-350F-188PR01-04 from Peerless delivers deep and clean bass reproduction with minimal distortion at high output levels. This driver was designed from the ground up for power, performance, and reliability in the smallest enclosures and, with its 7.4-inch voice coil, internal magnet arrangement, and outrageous excursion, is a welcome departure from conventional subwoofer designs.

The STW-350F-188PR01-04 subwoofer from Peerless was developed with performance and space in mind. These drivers provide deep and clean bass reproduction with minimal distortion at high sound pressure levels. Unlike most subwoofers, the STW-350 can be mounted in a much smaller enclosure than conventional subwoofers, made possible by the low Vas value, high moving mass, and the huge 188 mm voice coil. This driver also features a unique FEA-optimized ferrite motor, an extremely robust suspension, and incredible ventilation that allows exceptionally low power compression even at power levels over 3,500 watts. This driver is built for high-quality performance and long-term reliability.

Highlights:

  • Massive 7.4-inch voice coil produces exceptionally low power compression
  • 2 large aluminum shorting rings for better control and minimal harmonic distortion
  • Dual 8-ohm voice coil allows multiple wiring configurations including dual amplifier designs
  • Internal magnet structure delivers more force from a smaller magnet
  • Lower Vas and Fs with higher BL for unmatched low-end capabilities from the smallest enclosures
  • Extensive voice coil ventilation for quiet operation and increased power handling
  • Over 90 mm mechanical excursion prevents failure under the most demanding conditions

  • Deep bass: vented volume 130 l with 180 cm² and 90 cm length
  • Lower cutoff frequency -3dB: 20 Hz
Internal motor structure:
To drive a high moving mass, a subwoofer needs a powerful motor. An additional advantage of the STW-350F’s giant coil is that Peerless was able to incorporate a ferrite motor inside the voice coil. Conventional motor structures with the magnet outside the motor lose 50% of their energy in stray fields, while a magnet inside the voice coil achieves 90% or better magnetic utilization.
Long coil + long gap = high excursion:
The STW-350F has a remarkably long magnet gap of 36 mm with a 57 mm long voice coil. Thanks to such extreme dimensions and a well-controlled magnetic field, this driver can achieve an excursion of 45.5 mm before a significant loss of motor strength (Bl) occurs. In other words, this driver can reach 90 mm (3.5 inches) peak-to-peak excursion!

Front and rear mounting points:
Due to the weight and extreme force the STW-350F can withstand, Tymphany has provided rear mounting points on the back of the frame. By attaching the back of the frame to a brace inside an enclosure, the baffle is firmly connected to the side walls, increasing enclosure stiffness while supporting the overall weight of the STW-350F. These threaded holes accept M6 x 30 screws.
