With 27.4mm peak excursion (Klippel tested at 70% Bl), this speaker can move large volumes of air.

• Many inexpensive subwoofers look powerful but do not offer high performance.
• When designing the MX10-22, Dayton Audio spared no effort to keep costs down without sacrificing performance or reliability.A large, inverted dust cap completely covers the rigid pulp paper cone, creating an extremely rigid, layered cone with a sleek and modern look. The narrow but tall custom surround has been optimized to allow for high excursion without reducing the cone area, ensuring maximum excursion with improved efficiency. Additionally, the surround extends to the back of the mounting flange, providing maximum adhesion area that easily withstands the stresses of the large excursion. To keep the cone linear, the MX10-22 uses two widely spaced spiders to keep it from wobbling even when pushed to its limits.

• High output subwoofers can generate a lot of heat. Excessive heat buildup causes the temperature to rise, which in turn increases resistance. This leads to lower performance, power compression, and premature failure.
• The MX10-22 has everything needed to push as much air as possible through the 2-1/2" voice coil to dissipate excess heat. Six large diameter ports in the diaphragm combined with a widened pole piece opening provide continuous airflow directly through the center of the voice coil. The outside of the coil is cooled by eight ports under the spider in the frame and six peripheral slit ports in the back plate. This airflow not only keeps power compression to a minimum, but also allows the MX10-22 to operate extremely quietly even at high excursions, virtually eliminating the mechanical noise associated with many of today's subwoofer drivers.

• Another problem with many subwoofer drivers in today's price range is the lack of motor power. As a result, the drivers are inefficient or can only produce "one-note bass", which is the result of high Q drivers.
• The massive, double-stacked, high-energy ferrite magnets have been optimized to drive the 2-1/2" voice coil efficiently and precisely. The magnet gap has also been kept tight to ensure the least possible loss of magnetic force. This powerful motor unit gives the MX10-22 an impressive Bl of 18.2 T/m with a Qts of 0.46, making it suitable for use in compact sealed or vented enclosures with excellent bass extension.
  
• With its dual 2-ohm voice coils, the MX10-22 can be used in a variety of configurations to help you get the maximum power out of your amplifier in almost any application. In most home theater systems, the coils are connected in series to create a 4-ohm load. When used in automotive audio systems, you have the option of running the coils individually to create a dual 2-ohm load, or connecting them in parallel to 1-ohm to get the maximum power out of today's high current amplifiers.
