Frequently Asked Questions about Next LCD

How does the SPL mode work on the Next LCD from SPL Lab?

The SPL mode of the Next LCD is used to measure sound pressure peak values. It displays both the spectrum and the waveform of the measured signals. If you want to optimize the sound in your car, the SPL mode is ideal as it can work with two signal sources simultaneously. The built-in distortion (clip) detector helps to identify distortions in the signal early. These features are particularly useful when participating in car audio competitions. For example, if the distortion mode activates at 140 dB, you know you are operating in the critical range.

What types of sensors can be connected to the Lab-Bus ports of the Next LCD?

The two Lab-Bus ports of the Next LCD from SPL Lab allow for the connection of various sensors. For instance, the Next-Lab SPL sensor can be used to measure sound pressure, or the RTA microphone for frequency analysis. Additionally, the Power Sensor enables the measurement of direct and alternating current networks. This flexibility is crucial when you want to perform precise measurements in different acoustic or electrical scenarios. These connection options significantly expand the device's application, whether for sound optimization at home, in the car, or even in a professional setting.

What modulation options does the signal generator of the Next LCD offer?

The signal generator of the Next LCD includes several modulation options. You can generate sine signals, pink noise, and white noise. These signals are important for testing and calibrating acoustic systems. The background stereo generator allows these signals to be provided in the background while measurements can be conducted simultaneously. This function is particularly valuable when comprehensive tests are performed on acoustic systems and coupled effects are to be observed. Generating such signals is crucial for accurate performance testing and optimizing sound characteristics.

Can the Next LCD from SPL Lab transmit data wirelessly to a PC?

Yes, the Next LCD from SPL Lab can optionally use Wi-Fi to transmit data wirelessly to a PC. The ability to transmit data wirelessly enhances user-friendliness, especially in scenarios with limited physical access, such as large-scale installations. Alternatively, the USB port provides a wired option for data transfer. The wireless network is particularly useful in dynamic testing environments where flexibility and freedom of movement are necessary. This ensures that measurements are efficiently collected and processed without relying on physical connections.

What specific mode displays does the graphical display of the Next LCD offer?

The graphical display of the Next LCD is equipped with a backlight and shows various mode displays such as SPL, RTA, AVG, GEN, and PWR. In SPL mode, for example, the spectrum and waveform of the measured signals are displayed. In RTA mode, you can break down the AFC into octaves. The AVG mode shows the weighted time average of the sound pressure. The GEN mode is used to control the background stereo generator, while the PWR mode measures the power characteristics of circuits. These specific mode displays provide in-depth analysis and clarity for various measurement requirements.

How is the software of the Next LCD updated and why is this relevant?

The software of the Next LCD is updatable, meaning you can always keep the device up to date with the latest technology. Updates are possible via the PC through the USB port. In a fast-paced technological environment, such updates are crucial for integrating new features, fixing bugs, or optimizing performance. This ensures that your measuring device is equipped with current standards and features, extending its lifecycle. This flexibility offers a significant advantage when using the device for professional and demanding measurement tasks.

What battery characteristics does the Next LCD from SPL Lab offer?

The Next LCD is equipped with an internal Battery, making it an autonomous Measuring Device. This power source allows the device to be used in mobile or location-independent situations without relying on an external power supply. A three-color LED indicates the status and charge level of the Battery, which is a central point for autonomous operation. This display informs you in advance when a charge is required to avoid interruptions in your measurement work and to ensure the optimal functionality of the device.

What installation requirements does the Next LCD need in a vehicle?

When installing the Next LCD in the vehicle, there are no specific brand or model requirements to consider. However, you should pay attention to optimal placements. The device is designed as a monoblock and is made of shock-resistant plastic, making it robust and durable. To avoid impairing functionality, the device should be securely mounted to minimize vibrations. The ideal placement is near the systems to be measured so that the sensors can work effectively. This is crucial when precise measurements of acoustics and electrical networks in the vehicle are required.

How does the distortion detector of the Next LCD affect the measurement?

The distortion (clip) detector of the Next LCD is an essential feature to ensure the accuracy of measurements. This detector helps to identify exactly those moments when the signal is overdriven, preventing these distortions from skewing the measurements. Especially at high sound pressure levels, the detection of distortions is indispensable. Signal distortions are displayed immediately, giving you the opportunity to make appropriate adjustments and optimize the setup parameters. This is particularly beneficial for fine-tuning audio systems to ensure authentic sound reproduction.

What audio formats for acoustic measurement does the Next LCD support?

The Next LCD supports various audio formats for acoustic measurement, including sine, sweep tones, and noise. These audio formats are included on the supplied audio CD, which is specifically designed for calibrating and fine-tuning sound systems. The variety of signals allows for detailed analysis and adjustment of the resonances and frequency profiles of acoustic systems. Such audio formats are particularly useful for making precise sound calibrations in different environments, whether at home, in concert halls, or in the car, to get the best out of the sound systems.
