Satori MR16PNW / Paper by SB Acoustics

Satori MR16PNW / Paper is a 6.5 inch (16.5 cm) midrange driver from SB Acoustics. The Paper/Papyrus diaphragm is based on proprietary cone material with EGYPTIAN PAPYRUS fibers. A powerful neodymium motor system with 1.17 T magnetic flux density and 0.13 kg magnet provides the drive. Available in 4 Ω and 8 Ω variants with sensitivity of 92.5 dB (4 Ω) and 88.5 dB (8 Ω) at 2.83 V/1 m. The frequency range is from 80 Hz to 3 kHz, the free air resonance Fs is at 31 Hz, and the effective diaphragm area is 119 cm². A 35.5 mm CCAW voice coil on a non-conductive fiberglass former with a 11.2 mm coil height, 5 mm air gap, and 6.2 mm linear excursion (p-p) is integrated. The ventilated, aerodynamic aluminum die-cast chassis is complemented by a ventilated pole piece and voice coil former, as well as a generously ventilated spider. Soft rubber surround, extended copper sleeve on the pole piece, silver wires with 180° spacing, mode-balanced cone, sealing and bolt hole protrusions, and a low ratio of piston to chassis diameter are implemented.

SB Acoustics Satori MR16PNW / Paper Datasheet

Frequently Asked Questions about Satori MR16PNW / Paper

What impedance options does the Satori MR16PNW from SB Acoustics offer?

The Satori MR16PNW from SB Acoustics is available in two impedance options: 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm. The 4 Ohm variant has a nominal impedance of 4 Ω, a DC resistance (Re) of 3.2 Ω, and a voice coil inductance of 0.11 mH. The 8 Ohm version offers a nominal impedance of 8 Ω, a DC resistance (Re) of 6.2 Ω, and the same voice coil inductance of 0.11 mH. These options allow for adaptation to different amplifier systems and installation requirements, ensuring that the speaker can be operated optimally.

What are the advantages of the neodymium motor system in the Satori MR16PNW?

The Satori MR16PNW utilizes a powerful neodymium motor system known for its high efficiency and low distortion. This system is crucial for reproducing clear, undistorted sounds. The neodymium magnetic material helps keep the drive system particularly lightweight and compact while achieving a strong magnetic flux density of 1.17 T. These characteristics result in the motor system requiring less space, making the Satori MR16PNW ideal for compact speaker designs without compromising sound quality.

How do the materials of the Satori MR16PNW 6.5" driver affect sound quality?

The Satori MR16PNW from SB Acoustics uses proprietary cone material made from EGYPTIAN PAPYRUS™ fibers. This ultra-light membrane ensures excellent sound clarity and low distortion. The soft rubber surround with low damping guarantees optimal break-in behavior. Additionally, the advanced BIMAX spider supports the linearity of the diaphragm behavior. Together, these materials enhance overall sound quality by ensuring precise movements and clear reproduction, from deep bass to mid frequencies.

Can the Satori MR16PNW be used in common speakers?

The Satori MR16PNW is suitable for use in various speaker concepts, particularly thanks to its 6.5" size and the low-frequency usage range of 80 Hz to 3 kHz. This mid-woofer can be used in 2-way systems or as a woofer. Its ventilation design and innovative construction allow it to fit into speaker enclosures of various types. The dimensions and net diameter facilitate integration into existing systems, while detailed parameters enable fine-tuning for optimal sound reproduction.

What role does the voice coil play in the Satori MR16PNW?

The voice coil of the Satori MR16PNW is made of CCAW material, which reduces the moving mass. With a diameter of 35.5 mm and a height of 11.2 mm, it is central to the precise control of the diaphragm movement. The non-conductive fiberglass voice coil former ensures minimal damping, optimizes thermal resistance, and reduces distortion. With a linear coil travel of 6.2 mm, the maximum displacement of the voice coil system ensures precise reproduction of dynamic music passages. The extended copper sleeve on the pole piece helps keep the inductance low.

How does the ventilation contribute to the sound of the Satori MR16PNW?

The ventilation in the Satori MR16PNW is an essential part of the design that improves compression and thus sound reproduction. The ventilated pole piece and voice coil former reduce compression by allowing effective air circulation. This maximizes thermal cooling and ensures consistent performance even under higher loads. The vented centering spider also optimizes the rear compression behavior, leading to more efficient sound pressure conversion and tonal linearity.

Why is the diaphragm of the Satori MR16PNW particularly suitable for high-resolution audio systems?

The ultra-light membrane of the Satori MR16PNW, made from EGYPTIAN PAPYRUS™ fibers, is ideal for high-resolution audio systems. Its low mass allows for a lightning-fast response to acoustic signals, while the stiffness of the papyrus fibers ensures precise sound reproduction without distortion. The material also provides excellent internal damping and minimizes resonance effects, resulting in an exceptionally accurate and natural music playback that impresses even the most discerning listeners.

What frequency ranges can the Satori MR16PNW cover?

The Satori MR16PNW from SB Acoustics covers a frequency range from 80Hz to 3kHz. This bandwidth allows for use in both low-frequency and mid-range units. It is an optimal range for most musical applications, as it adequately reproduces both deep bass tones and mid-range sounds. The high linearity across this wide range ensures that the sound remains authentic and detailed, regardless of the music style. It is excellent for very demanding speaker systems.

How does the chassis of the Satori MR16PNW differ in terms of strength and sound?

The chassis of the Satori MR16PNW is a ventilated, aerodynamic aluminum die-cast housing that provides exceptional strength. This design minimizes resonances and sound distortions that can occur due to unwanted vibrations of the housing. By reducing membrane compression under high load, the stable design also contributes to precise sound reproduction. The structural strength of the aluminum die-cast ensures that the speaker remains dimensionally stable even under intense use, resulting in consistently high sound quality.

What impact does the special surround of the Satori MR16PNW have on the sound?

The soft rubber surround of the Satori MR16PNW has been designed with low damping to enable optimal settling behavior. This specific construction helps the speaker respond precisely to even the finest signals, ensuring clear and powerful sound. The low damping results in minimal losses in energy transfer, achieving better efficiency and sensitivity. Further improvements include the linearity of the entire oscillation behavior, contributing to a more natural and balanced sound.
