Discover the 4200SE, a 4-channel amplifier from ARC Audio. This device impresses with its high-end Class A/B technology, developed by Robert Zeff himself. The 4200SE uses a sophisticated bias circuit to continuously deliver maximum power at any temperature. Unique heat management, hand-selected Sanken power amplifier transistors and a microprocessor-controlled power supply round off the profile of this impressive amplifier. With the 4200SE, ARC Audio brings the clear and transparent sound of the Signature Edition directly into your audio setup.

Signature Edition HighEnd ClassA/B amplifier developed by Robert Zeff
The Signature Edition is a Hard Bias Class A/B amplifier. A simple Class B amplifier uses 2 output transistors to provide the current that moves the speaker. The positive transistor pushes the woofer out and the negative pulls it back. In this design, only 1 transistor is working at any time. It is the junction between positive and negative that results in the higher distortion that makes a Class B amplifier unacceptable for audio reproduction. In most cases, a bias circuit is added to a Class B amplifier, making it a Class A/B amplifier. The bias circuit improves the distortion by turning the unused output device slightly on while current is flowing through the other device. The more bias you add, the less distortion there is, but there is a side effect. Heat is generated because the two output transistors are on at the same time. The more bias you add, the better it sounds, but the more heat you add, the more heat changes the natural bias of the output devices.

The trick with the Signature Edition bias circuit is managing the bias current at each temperature. By carefully adjusting the bias of each amplifier, one can keep the bias stable over the entire temperature range, allowing the engineer to "dial in" much more bias than with a conventional Class A/B amplifier. This is one of the key elements to the amazingly transparent sound of the Signature Editions.

The key to running so much bias is thermal management. The Signature Edition features a unique heatsink design that mounts a 4" fan in the center of the PCB to force cool air in a crossflow pattern over a massive, finned heatsink before exhausting it out the ends. This design minimizes the impact of installation location on the thermal performance of the amplifier. Mounting the Signature Edition upside down, under or behind a seat, or under a panel will achieve the same performance.

To further improve dynamics and efficiency, the Signature Edition amplifier uses only rigidly regulated, fully isolated power supplies. The regulation not only improves the damping factor and overall control of an amplifier, but also eliminates any effects of voltage drops in the charging system.
