DD Audio VO-B1c – PA-Tweeter for uncompromising level stability
The VO-B1c from the Voice Optimized series is not an ordinary tweeter for everyday installation, but a PA-tweeter in classic bullet design, designed for high efficiency rather than maximum detail. I use such PA-tweeters where level stability and efficiency are crucial – for example, in combination with powerful midrange drivers, where a normal dome tweeter would quickly reach its limits.
Technical Highlights
- Titanium diaphragm with neodymium drive: The lightweight, torsion-resistant titanium dome combined with the more powerful neodymium magnet ensures higher sensitivity – the tweeter plays significantly louder at the same amplifier power than comparable ferrite models.
- Revised waveguide: The new horn improves dispersion outside the main axis, important for a more uniform sound image throughout the vehicle interior rather than just directly on axis.
- 110 dB efficiency: A high SPL value means that the tweeter plays loudly even with little power – practical when you want it to keep up with a powerful bass range in terms of level.
- Cast aluminum horn with protective grille: The integrated mesh grille protects the sensitive titanium diaphragm from mechanical damage without compromising the aesthetics.

Application Area & Compatibility
The VO-B1c is suitable for systems where the high-frequency range must keep up with high efficiency and level stability – typically in PA-oriented or SPL-focused setups, but also in demanding SQ systems with powerful midrange. For a clean separation, it is worth combining it with a DSP to ensure the crossover frequency matches the rest of the system.
What to Consider When Installing
- Observe crossover frequency: PA-tweeters like this typically do not tolerate too low a crossover – stick to a high-pass above the specified frequency range to avoid overloading the titanium diaphragm.
- Check installation depth: With a 38 mm installation depth, the VO-B1c fits in most, but not all A-pillars or doorboards – measure briefly before cuts.
- Connect polarity correctly: Especially with high efficiency, incorrect polarity can quickly lead to audible phase cancellations in the crossover range to the midrange driver.
If you are looking for a tweeter that still delivers good levels even at low amplifier power and looks great, the VO-B1c is a good choice. However, for very subtle, pure hi-fi applications without SPL demands, there are finer resolving alternatives in the dome segment.
