S8 DSP by Hertz

The S8 DSP is an 8-Channel DSP from Hertz in a corrosion-resistant housing made of metal and composite materials. The signal processing occurs at 96 kHz and 24 Bit, including Hi-Res certification from JAS. A 32-Bit DSP manages 6 analog high/low-level input channels, one coaxial SPDIF input, and 8 output channels. For the outputs, there are level controls, a 15-band equalizer per channel, time delays, crossover filters, and polarity; for the inputs, a 7-band equalizer per channel. The bandwidth ranges from 10 Hz to 40 kHz, the signal-to-noise ratio is 105 dBA (analog input) and 112 dBA (digital input), THD+N is below 0.005 %, and channel separation is over 95 dBA. Control and setup are done via the BT app for iOS/Android in Configurator and DRC mode, as well as via PC/Mac, including the exchange of setup files via BT and four presets with selection via cable. The power supply operates with 7–20 VDC and ART Automatic Remote Turn-On/Off; Remote IN/OUT are specified. The housing measures 130 x 33.8 x 88.3 mm at 0.66 kg. The DSP chipset is the Analog Devices ADAU1451.

Frequently Asked Questions about S8 DSP

What are the technical specifications of the Hertz S8 DSP?

The Hertz S8 DSP features a sampling rate of 96 kHz and a bit depth of 24 bit, enabling high-resolution audio output. It integrates analog high-level and low-level inputs across six channels, as well as a digital SPDIF input, providing versatile connection options. The eight RCA outputs can be individually controlled, including a 15-band equalizer, crossover filter, and delay control. The device operates at a voltage of 7-20 VDC and has a signal-to-noise ratio of 105 dBA for analog input and 112 dBA for digital input.

How does the parametric equalizer work in the Hertz S8 DSP?

The Hertz S8 DSP uses a parametric 7-band input equalizer to shape and enhance the input signal. This can be individually adjusted for each of the six analog input channels, allowing precise control over frequency ranges. The output side also features a parametric 15-band equalizer, enabling exact adjustments to audio playback for achieving more precise sound quality. The EQ resolution is 1/10 dB per step, allowing for subtle fine-tuning.

What input and output options does the Hertz S8 DSP offer?

The Hertz S8 DSP provides extensive connection options with six analog low-level and six analog high-level inputs, as well as a digital input option via SPDIF. The output stage includes eight channels via RCA, which are individually configurable. This flexibility allows for optimizing audio output through extensive digital filter, equalizer, and control settings. The coaxial SPDIF input allows connection of hi-res players for audiophile sound reproduction.

How do I integrate the Hertz S8 DSP into existing audio systems?

To install the Hertz S8 DSP in an existing audio system, the dimensions of 130 x 33.8 x 88.3 mm are taken into account to ensure it fits in the intended environment. The DSP offers different inputs that can be connected using the included adapter cables. The input sensitivity can be adjusted to be compatible with the typical output signals from OEM systems, so no additional adjustment of the original audio signals is necessary.

Can the Hertz S8 DSP be used for different types of vehicles?
