Is a midrange driver even necessary?

Although this design is predominant, it is not the only option. Spherical domes are also occasionally used in midrange speakers and even midrange horns exist. Cone is standard for midrange and bass drivers. The dome tweeter is the preferred design for tweeters. The horn is rather exotic and less common nowadays. Although the cone is common for midrange drivers, you may well find that the sound of a dome midrange driver is better. Personal preference is not concerned with standards or preferred designs. Nevertheless, you shouldn't worry too much about the design. With a
established cone midrange driver you are on the safe side and have by far the largest selection.
Which specifications are important?
