Frequently Asked Questions about SA8 v.3

What is the power of the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer is equipped with an RMS power of 500 watts. This power provides a powerful audio performance and is excellent for users seeking strong sound resonance. The robust construction of the subwoofer with the 2-inch aluminum voice coil former ensures effective heat dissipation, supporting the high power and increasing durability. Additional features such as the high-temperature copper voice coil wire contribute to heat resistance, which is essential for handling higher power levels. Thanks to the optimized design, these parameters are perfectly tuned for small bass reflex enclosures.

What are the Thiele Small parameters of the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 has specific Thiele Small parameters that significantly influence performance and sound quality. For the SAv3 8" D2 model, the parameters are: RE is 3.36 ohms, Qts is 0.309, and Le is 2.08 mH. For the SAv3 8" D4 model, RE is 6.0 ohms, Qts is 0.36, and Le is 3.32 mH. These parameters provide insight into the efficiency, damping, and coil inductance of the subwoofer. The BL value of 18.94 NA for the D2 and 22.06 NA for the D4 shows the strength of the electromagnetic drive. Such data is important in tuning and optimizing your audio system.

What is the XMAX of the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer has a linear excursion (XMAX) of 16 mm in one direction. This means that the diaphragm of the subwoofer can achieve a maximum linear stroke of 32 mm before nonlinear distortions occur. This generous excursion allows for exceptional bass reproduction, as the subwoofer can move larger volumes of air, which is especially important at low frequencies. The aluminum Faraday ring minimizes distortion due to inductance fluctuations at maximum stroke. This feature is crucial for ensuring clean, deep bass reproduction, which is particularly beneficial for low-frequency music genres.

How do I optimally install the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 in my car?

For the installation of the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 in the vehicle, choosing the right enclosure is crucial. The Subwoofer is optimized for a bass reflex enclosure with 18.4 liters and a tuning of 35 Hz. The cutout diameter is 18.7 cm and the depth is 16.8 cm, which must be considered when planning the installation location. A port area of 58 cm² is recommended to maximize bass quality. Using an enclosure with these dimensions is essential for achieving the desired sound quality. A displacement of 2.26 liters in the enclosure is also planned to make optimal use of the performance.

What impedance options are available for the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 Subwoofer is available in two impedance variants: D2 and D4. The D2 variant has a RE of 3.36 Ohms, while D4 has a RE of 6.0 Ohms. Differences in impedance affect overall performance and the type of wiring in the audio system. A lower impedance can draw more power from an amplifier, while a higher impedance tends to increase thermal capacity. The choice between D2 and D4 should therefore be based on the existing amplifier and the desired power to operate the Subwoofer efficiently and maximize sound performance.

How does the aluminum Faraday ring affect the sound of the Subwoofer?

The aluminum Faraday ring in the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 plays a crucial role in sound quality. This ring reduces distortions that can occur due to inductance and its fluctuations over the stroke. By minimizing such distortions, a clearer sound profile is achieved, especially at high volumes and low frequencies. The Faraday ring stabilizes the electromagnetic forces of the voice coil, leading to a more efficient utilization of motor power. In conjunction with the robust construction and optimized parameters of the Subwoofer, the ring significantly contributes to the clarity and precision of bass reproduction.

In which enclosures does the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 work most effectively?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 is optimized for use in small, bass reflex enclosures. For optimal performance, a volume of 18.4 liters and a tuning of 35 Hz is recommended. Additionally, it can also be operated in a sealed enclosure with a volume of 8.5 liters. The choice of enclosure type significantly influences bass reproduction: a bass reflex enclosure offers stronger bass resonance, while a sealed enclosure allows for more precise sound reproduction. Considering the recommended port area of 58 cm² further refines the sound. Both enclosure types offer different advantages, depending on the desired sound outcome.

What role does the magnetic ID short-circuit ring play in the Subwoofer?

The magnetic ID short-circuit ring, part of the motor in the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3, reduces harmonic distortions caused by changes in inductance during the stroke. This ring, also known as a Faraday ring, acts as a stabilizer by minimizing magnetic losses and improving the coherence of sound reproduction. Particularly in aggressive bass applications, the short-circuit ring is used as it increases the linearity of the voice coil movement. This technical finesse impacts your listening experience by minimizing distortion, thereby enhancing the clarity and accuracy of the bass.

How is heat efficiently dissipated in the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 is equipped with a 2-inch aluminum voice coil former that ensures excellent heat dissipation. Aluminum has high thermal conductivity, allowing for rapid distribution and dissipation of the heat generated during operation. This property prevents overheating and contributes to the longevity of the subwoofer. The high-temperature copper voice coil wire further supports temperature resistance. Such a design is crucial for maintaining performance quality, especially under high power demands, and ensures that performance remains stable even under intense use.

How does the Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 respond to different frequencies?

The Sundown Audio SA8 v.3 is designed to handle a wide range of frequencies with high precision. The FS value, or resonance frequency, is 38.29 Hz for the D2 model and 40.0 Hz for the D4 model, allowing for impressive deep bass sound performance. The sensitivity of 82.79 dB (D2) and 82.71 dB (D4) ensures that even quiet sounds are processed efficiently, resulting in a homogeneous and nuanced frequency spectrum. The values of Qts, Qms, and Qes provide additional parameters that can be adjusted to achieve specific sound characteristics. The high Mms also ensures precise and controlled diaphragm movement, optimizing bass reproduction.
