With the SALT-400.2, Sundown Audio presents a pioneering 2-channel amplifier. This model represents the pinnacle of Korean Class-D amplifier technology and was developed from the rich heritage of three previous generations of high-quality Korean amplifiers. The SALT-400.2 is perfect for everyone, from world-class SPL competitors to passionate enthusiasts, and offers optimal performance at realistic operating voltages in the 12 range. With its striking titanium-colored heatsink, improved remote control and unique Low-Voltage Technology, this amplifier series sets new standards.

Characteristics

  • The Sundown Audio SALT amplifiers represent the pinnacle of Korean Class-D amplifier technology. They stand on the shoulders of the three previous generations of Korean high-end amplifiers from 15 years ago (the SAZ v.1, SAZ, v.2 and SCV series) to achieve even higher performance. Our customers have been asking us for many years to produce amplifiers that deliver optimal performance at realistic operating voltages in the 12s range rather than 14+ volts. The SALT - Sundown Audio Low-Voltage Technology - series is our answer!
  • Whether you're a world-class SPL competitor, a dedicated enthusiast, or just a fan of sound quality, the SALT range will feel right at home in your system. Each and every model has been designed with great attention to detail to ensure they'll put a smile on your face every time the music starts playing, and that they'll last for many years to come too.
  • Cosmetically they are a big departure from our original design, which is an outward indicator of the improved performance level. The heatsink is the heaviest we have ever made, has the most surface area and is finished in a striking titanium color. These amplifiers look as good as they sound and once you hold one in your hands the build quality is obvious. The icing on the cake is the redesigned remote control with temperature, voltage and clipping indicators, allowing you to easily monitor the vitals of your precious audio system.
  • Digital 2-channel full-range amplifier
  • Double-sided epoxy circuit board with through holes
  • Multi-way protection circuit (thermal / voltage / speaker short circuit / DC offset)
  • Voltage, temperature and overload indicator Wired remote control (optional / not included with multi-channel devices)
  • clipping indicator on the amplifier side panel
  • Optimized for standard 12 V charging systems (Low Voltage Technology)

Frequently Asked Questions about SALT-400.2

What power does the SALT-400.2 Amplifier provide at different resistances?

The Sundown Audio SALT-400.2 delivers an output power of 400 W per channel RMS at 4 Ohm and increases to 650 W per channel RMS at 2 Ohm. For applications requiring a mono bridged connection, the amplifier can provide 1300 W RMS at 4 Ohm. This flexible power configuration makes it suitable for both demanding sound enthusiasts and SPL competitors, maximizing sound quality according to system requirements.

How does the Low Voltage Technology work in the SALT-400.2?

The Low Voltage Technology of the SALT-400.2 is designed to provide optimal performance in standard 12V vehicle charging systems. This technology means that the amplifier can unleash its full potential without requiring the usual voltage demands of 14V or more. This makes it ideal for standard installations where it is important to pay attention to power requirements while still delivering impressive sound quality.

What protection mechanisms does the SALT-400.2 Amplifier have?

The SALT-400.2 includes multiple protection circuits, including protection against thermal overloads, voltage deviations, speaker short circuits, and DC offset. These protection mechanisms ensure that the amplifier operates reliably even under demanding conditions. Additionally, a wired remote control with temperature, voltage, and clipping indicators informs the user about the operating conditions of the amplifier, thus enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

What are the dimensions of the SALT-400.2 for car installation?

With compact dimensions of 29.9 cm in length, 17.4 cm in width, and 6.6 cm in height, the SALT-400.2 is perfect for installation in vehicles with limited space. Its small size makes it flexible to place, whether under the seat or in the trunk. Ensure adequate ventilation to guarantee the maximum cooling performance of the heavy titanium heatsink, which is part of Sundown Audio's innovative design.

How does the efficiency of the SALT-400.2 affect the sound?

The efficiency of the SALT-400.2 is 75% at 4 Ohm and 100 Hz, meaning that a large portion of the input power is efficiently converted into sound energy. This reduces energy loss and heat generation, improves performance, and extends the lifespan of the amplifier. Higher efficiency leads to clearer and more dynamic audio signals, which is important when you value loud and sustained playback with minimal sound loss.

What filter options does the SALT-400.2 Amplifier offer?

The SALT-400.2 features flexible filter settings with variable subsonic, high-pass, and low-pass filters. The subsonic crossover can be set from 10 Hz to 500 Hz, while the high-pass and low-pass filters are configurable from 50 Hz to 500 Hz, extendable to 500 Hz to 5 kHz with the x10 option. These customization options allow for precise tuning of sound reproduction to your speaker requirements and musical preferences, making them extremely valuable for professional audio installations.

How good is the signal-to-noise ratio of the SALT-400.2?

The SALT-400.2 Amplifier offers an excellent signal-to-noise ratio of over 105 dB, ensuring outstanding clarity and detail in audio playback. This means that even in demanding listening environments, noise is significantly suppressed relative to the audio output, resulting in a clean and uninterrupted sound experience, ideal for refined audio installations and sound enthusiasts.

What frequencies does the SALT-400.2 Amplifier cover?

The frequency response specification of the SALT-400.2 ranges from 10 Hz to 25 kHz, highlighting its ability to reproduce both the deepest bass and the finest highs. This makes it particularly capable of delivering a complete sound picture suitable for various music genres. Such a range ensures that all details of the music are accurately and vividly reproduced, without any frequency ranges being inadequately covered.

Why is the input sensitivity of the SALT-400.2 important?

The input sensitivity of the SALT-400.2 Amplifier ranges from 6V to 0.2V and determines how strong the input signal must be to activate the amplifier's full power. This allows for better adaptability to different preamplifier sources and maximizes flexibility in system integration. Accurate adjustment of the input sensitivity is crucial for optimal gain and minimizing distortion to achieve the best possible sound quality.

What is the significance of the damping factor in the SALT-400.2?

The damping factor of the SALT-400.2 is over 400, describing the amplifier's control over the movements of the speaker diaphragm. The higher this value, the better the amplifier can avoid uncontrolled vibrations of the speaker diaphragm, which in turn increases sound precision and detail accuracy. A higher damping factor is particularly valuable for high-quality audio systems striving for exact sound reproduction, especially in bass-heavy music pieces.
