The Morel MPS 2.150 Limited 2-channel amplifier from the MPS Limited amplifier series has been developed to the highest standards to celebrate Morel's 45th anniversary. The Class AB stereo amplifier uses audiophile components, including Ti (Burr Brown) OPA2134 operational amplifiers, Rubicon and WIMA capacitors with ultra-low ESR, gold-plated connectors, and chassis-mounted RCA connectors. Balanced line inputs with noise suppression can receive signals of up to 20 volts. Removable side panels allow for unique mounting options and stacking of amplifiers.

The MPS Limited amplifiers feature an optional stacking system for the use of multiple MPS Limited amplifiers in one system.

During installation, you select the correct mode under the amplifier. In High-Power mode, the MPS 2.150 Limited delivers 150 watts x 2 to a 4-ohm load. When switched to High-Current mode, the amplifier is now optimized for 150 watts x 2 at 2 ohms. This simple solution provides an exceptionally stable platform and an extremely effective way to harness the amplifier's power potential.

Frequently Asked Questions about MPS 2.500 LIMITED

How does the Class-AB amplifier of the Morel MPS 2.150 affect sound quality?

The Class-AB amplifier of the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited amplifier combines the advantages of classic Class-A and Class-B circuits. This design allows for minimizing the distortions that can occur at higher volumes. The Class-AB amplifier uses highly audiophile components, including Ti (Burr Brown) OPA2134 operational amplifiers, which stand out due to their exceptionally linear frequency response. The installed Rubicon and WIMA capacitors with ultra-low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) minimize energy losses and significantly improve sound fidelity. The result of these technological refinements is a rounded, detailed, and precise sound that is particularly noticeable with complex audio material.

What advantages do the balanced line inputs in the Morel MPS 2.150 offer?

The balanced line inputs of the Morel MPS 2.150 are designed to provide superior noise rejection. This is especially beneficial when working in environments with potential sources of interference, such as automotive electronics. These inputs can handle signals of up to 20 volts, making them compatible with a variety of source devices. Another technical advantage is their ability to efficiently cancel out interference signals, ensuring a clean and undisturbed signal path. This leads to a clearer and more dynamic sound, as unwanted noises are removed that could otherwise impair audio quality.

How does the high-power mode differ from the high-current mode in the Morel MPS 2.150?

The Morel MPS 2.150 offers two operating modes to adapt to different requirements. In High-Power mode, the Amplifier delivers 150 watts per channel at a 4-ohm load, which is particularly suitable for speaker systems that require high power. This mode features a THD+N value of 0.02% and provides an impressive frequency range of 10Hz to 80kHz. The High-Current mode, on the other hand, optimizes the Amplifier for 2-ohm loads, providing 150 watts per channel. This mode is ideal for systems with low impedance. Both modes utilize the same advanced technology to ensure the best possible audio performance, depending on system requirements.

Does the Morel MPS 2.150 have special installation features?

Yes, the Morel MPS 2.150 Amplifier offers some unique installation features to allow for flexible mounting. Removable side panels serve not only aesthetic purposes but also facilitate the mounting and stacking of multiple amplifiers from the same series. With dimensions of 51mm x 170mm x 322mm, these devices can be easily integrated into most vehicle configurations. The gold-plated connections ensure a long-lasting, corrosion-free connection. The RCA connections mounted on the chassis additionally provide a stable connection that maintains signal integrity. These features make installation not only comfortable but also contribute to the longevity of the system.

What signal-to-noise ratios does the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited achieve?

The Morel MPS 2.150 Limited Amplifier achieves impressive values with a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N Ratio) of 111dB (A-weighted, at Rated Power). This means that the Amplifier effectively suppresses unwanted background noise, contributing to a clearer and uncolored sound image, especially in acoustically challenging environments. A high signal-to-noise ratio is essential for reproducing quiet passages without audible noise. Even at high volumes, sound transparency is maintained. This technical requirement is particularly advantageous for demanding applications that require high audio quality without compromise.

What role do the capacitors used in the Morel MPS 2.150 play?

The Morel MPS 2.150 uses Rubicon and WIMA capacitors, which are known for their ultra-low ESR values. These electrolytic capacitors minimize energy loss within the Amplifier, contributing to more efficient signal transfer. Capacitors play a key role in stabilizing and filtering voltages in the amplifier system. A low ESR value reduces internal heat generation, which in turn increases the longevity and reliability of the amplifier. These properties are particularly significant in conjunction with the high-quality operational amplifiers, as they noticeably improve the overall sound quality. This results in unprecedented clarity and precision in sound reproduction.

How does the THD+N value of the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited affect sound fidelity?

With a THD+N value of only 0.02% in high-power mode, the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited demonstrates an impressively low level of distortion. Total harmonic distortion (THD) plus noise (N) are critical parameters that influence sound quality, as they indicate how cleanly the amplifier can reproduce the input signal. A low THD+N value means that the amplifier reproduces the audio source almost unaltered. This is particularly important in audiophile applications, where every subtle sound nuance matters. It also contributes to the clarity and precision of the reproduction, enhancing listening quality in demanding acoustic environments.

How is the frequency response of the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited designed?

The frequency range of the Morel MPS 2.150 Limited extends from 10Hz to 80kHz, achieving a +/- 1dB precision. This wide bandwidth ensures that all important frequencies from deep bass to extremely high tones are accurately reproduced. This allows even complex musical pieces with many different frequency components to be reproduced in detail. Such a frequency range is particularly interesting for Hi-Fi fans and audiophiles who value uncolored and dynamic music playback. With this frequency response, the Amplifier lays the foundation for a comprehensive and high-quality sound experience that meets the highest demands.

What is meant by the damping factor in the Morel MPS 2.150?

The damping factor of the Morel MPS 2.150 is over 250, which ensures an excellent degree of speaker control. The damping factor describes the ratio of the load impedance to the output impedance of the Amplifier. A higher damping factor means better control of the speakers, especially when reproducing low frequencies. This is particularly important when using large, bass-heavy speakers that are especially demanding at low frequencies. High damping also ensures that the reverberation of low-frequency sounds does not unintentionally affect sound quality, contributing to a more precise and dynamic listening experience.

What compatibility aspects should be considered with the Morel MPS 2.150?

With the Morel MPS 2.150, one should primarily pay attention to the dimensions of 51mm x 170mm x 322mm to ensure that there is sufficient space for installation in the car. The gold-plated connections and the option for stacking with removable side panels offer flexibility to integrate the Amplifier into various system configurations. The Amplifier is compatible with a variety of audio sources through the balanced line inputs, which accept input signals of up to 20 volts. Although no specific car brands are mentioned, the technical specifications are designed to be easily adapted to different systems.
