TMS57 by Rockford Fosgate

The Rockford Fosgate TMS57 is a 5 x 7 inch coaxial speaker with a 2-way design. The Element Ready design is weather and water resistant, featuring a membrane made of carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene and co-molded surround. It includes a poly-cotton spider, Santoprene VAST surround, and a Santoprene front isolation spider. The ultra-efficient neodymium dual magnet motor structure works with an ultra-high temperature resistant, fiberglass reinforced polymer frame and integrated flat connectors. A proprietary 25 mm film dome tweeter with neodymium drive, integrated phase plug, and ASA grille is housed in a flat coaxial design with discrete tweeter wiring; the control is managed through an integrated 6 dB crossover with high-performance polyester capacitor. Technical specifications include 100 Watts RMS, 4 Ohms, 61 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity 89 dB (1W/1m) and 92 dB (2.8V @ 1 m), installation depth of 55 mm, and a 35 mm voice coil. Nominal dimensions are 127 x 178 mm. A factory H-D connector allows for plug-and-play; mounting hardware, two TMS57, and two aluminum diamond R badges are included. EAA-2031 and a shipping weight of 1.34 kg are specified.

Frequently Asked Questions about TMS57

What distinguishes the neodymium motor structure of the TMS57 from Rockford Fosgate?

The neodymium motor structure of the TMS57 is ultra-efficient and doubly magnetic, maximizing performance in compact dimensions. Neodymium, known for its strong magnetic force, combined with the ultra-high-temperature-resistant fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame, ensures optimal performance even under extreme conditions. Especially at high wattages, sound quality is maintained. This construction is ideal for demanding use in motorcycles, where space constraints often pose a problem.

How weather-resistant is the Element Ready design of the TMS57 speakers?

The Element Ready design of the TMS57 speakers ensures high weather resistance. The combination of carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene diaphragm and Santoprene VAST surround provides protection against rain and water. The poly-cotton spider and Santoprene front isolation further contribute to waterproofing. These features make the speaker an optimal choice for use in motorcycles exposed to various weather conditions, ensuring a long lifespan despite moisture and fluctuating temperatures.

What acoustic advantages does the improved polypropylene diaphragm of the TMS57 offer?

The carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene diaphragm in the TMS57 enhances sound through increased stiffness and low weight. This ensures a quick and precise response of the speaker to acoustic signals. These properties minimize distortion and optimally utilize the frequency response from 61 Hz to 20 kHz. Especially at higher volumes, the sound remains clear and detailed, making the speaker an excellent choice for anyone expecting uncompromising sound quality in their motorcycle.

What crossover does the TMS57 use and what advantages does it offer?

The TMS57 is equipped with an integrated 6dB Crossover that includes a high-performance polyester capacitor. This Crossover efficiently separates the high and low frequencies to optimally drive the 25mm film dome Tweeter and the main diaphragm. The precise separation of frequencies creates a distinct soundstage where all pitches are reproduced clearly and without distortion. The advantage of this design lies in the effective use of the available RMS power of 100 watts and an increased efficiency of the speaker.

How is the TMS57 installed in Harley-Davidson motorcycles?

The installation of the TMS57 in Harley-Davidson motorcycles is facilitated by the factory H-D connector for plug-and-play operation. This speaker is specifically designed for Bag Lid Sound Systems of the Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, Street Glide, and Road Glide models, compatible from model year 2014 and Road King from 2006 to 2013. The installation is quick and without modifications due to the pre-fabricated connection options. The installation depth of 2.2 inches is perfectly matched to the existing space conditions, allowing for seamless integration into the motorcycles.

How efficient is the Tweeter of the TMS57?

The ultra-efficient 25mm film dome Tweeter of the TMS57 is equipped with a neodymium Tweeter and integrated phase plug. This design ensures high sensitivity and impressive detail accuracy, with higher frequencies reproduced clearly and authentically. The built-in ASA grille additionally protects the Tweeter and guarantees durability during the dynamic reproduction of high frequencies. Especially for discerning sound enthusiasts who seek crystal-clear high frequencies even at high volumes, this Tweeter offers immense advantages.

What is the power handling of the TMS57 and why is it relevant?

The TMS57 motorcycle speaker has a power handling of 100 watts RMS, which underscores its ability to continuously withstand high power levels without compromising sound quality. This high wattage means that the speaker is capable of delivering clear and powerful sound results, even at higher volumes, without distortion. For motorcyclists who do not want to forgo loud and high-quality sound while riding, this is a crucial factor in achieving the best possible sound experience.

How does the sensitivity of the TMS57 affect the sound?

With a sensitivity of 89 dB (1W/1m) and connected to a power source of 2.8V, the TMS57 reaches 92 dB (1m). This high sensitivity means that the speaker can produce loud sound even at low input voltage. This aspect is particularly important when you think about efficiency in operation, as it prevents the speaker from being overloaded quickly and keeps energy consumption optimal. This makes the speaker efficient for long trips, as it requires little energy to achieve high volume.

What materials are used for the surround in the TMS57?

The TMS57 uses Santoprene for the VAST surround to ensure high flexibility and durability. Santoprene is known for its excellent elasticity and resistance to environmental influences, which is especially important for motorcycle speakers that are exposed to wind, rain, and temperature changes. This choice of material contributes to the improved weather resistance of the speaker and ensures that it retains its shape and function over a long time. In combination with the reinforced carbon fiber polypropylene membrane, Santoprene guarantees a balanced sound.

What is the impedance value of the TMS57 and why is it important?

The TMS57 has an impedance of 4Ω. This value is crucial for compatibility with amplifiers and determines how much current the speaker draws. A low impedance means that the speaker draws more current, leading to louder playback. When used in motorcycles, which typically have limited power supply options, it is important for the speaker to operate efficiently to avoid unnecessarily straining the car battery. The 4Ω impedance provides an optimal balance between volume and energy consumption.
